Since many of us play, this is a Flight Rising thread here for questions, showing off your dragons and hatchies and offering free adoptions, lair clearings or even sales.

I reserve the second post for some starter guidelines, it is a work in progress. Third post is for known players. Have fun!

Post 2: Short Guide

1. Getting Started

FLIGHT When creating an account, you have to choose a Flight out of a pool of 11: Arcane, Earth, Fire, Ice, Light, Lightning, Nature, Plague, Shadow, Water, Wind. You can read a short description of each Flight to get an impression before choosing.

Be aware that the Flight determines your dragon babies eye color. Always. Until you change Flight if you want that later; you can do so every 6 month, the first change is free. Background and nests correspond to the choosen Flight, too. Each flight has its own private forum that is accessible only to Flight members and activities like Dominance and events are planned there. Dominance is tallied on Saturdays.

DRAGONS If you start fresh, you get to choose a dragon from a plentiful breed and give it colors. Starter breeds are the Fae Dragons, Guardian Dragons, Mirror Dragons, and Tundra Dragons.

Your fist dragon, a gen 1, will have only basic genes aka the 3 colors are solid without any pattern. You get to choose 2 colors and the 3rd color is choosen by system.

You can't change the colors of the dragon by will yet you could try a scroll for this, the Tri-Color Scatterscroll, available at the Market Place. However, you can't choose the colors here, too, all 3 colors will be choosen by system. It can be fun yet mostly, we try to upgrade our starter dragons later with genes which give a pattern and sometimes also additional colors.

Your dragon will find a mate, also one of the 4 starter dragon breeds, in the wild after you play for some minutes so you'll have a breeding pair.

Dragons and Hatchies You can find all dragons and their genes in the FR Wiki here: W I K I The most coveted dragons are certainly the newest dragon species (Obelisks at the time being). Imperials, Coatls, Wildclaws and Skydancers are very searched for yet in the end, it all depends on your personal taste. The newest breed is the Veilspun, an ancient breed, and the Obelisk when it comes to modern breeds. Ancient dragons can't wear apparel.

You find all your dragons in your lair. You are able to make different tabs there to arrange the dragons in categories. You only have so much lair space, if you want more, you have to pay treasure for it, the in-game currency, which you can get by selling hatchies and stuff or playing games.

When a dragon is old enough, it can breed with a fitting partner which means they are not too closely related over 5 generations. If they share a common ancestor, they can't breed. Ancient breeds can only breed under themselves, however, all other modern species can breed between them.

If you go to the Library and click Scrying Workshop, you can look up if your choosen pair is able to breed through the Assay Bloodlines option. If you want to look what your hatchies could look like, choose Foresee Progeny there. However, the hatchies won't look exactly like the previews, it is only an idea and possible outcomes. If you want to look up how a hatchie will look when it is an adult dragon or want to create your dream dragon and then search for it, choose the option Predict Morphology.

Genes are used to upgrade your starter dragon's basic ones to give a pattern. You have 3 layers, primary, secondary and tertiary ones, and some are lines which complement each other. The genes are different in rarity. There are plentiful, common, uncommon, limited and rare ones. If you have settled on 2 breeding partners, go to the page of the dragon. Click the breed button, choose the opposite partner (only dragons of different genders are able to breed together) and then after clicking the final breed button, you see how many eggs are in your nest. Visit the nest every day and click the incubate button. At day 6, you are able to hatch your dragons. They stay dragon babies aka hatchies for 5 days and look like cute hatchies, then they'll change to the normal look of the adult dragon.

What are you doing with all the hatchies now? You can hold onto them forever, even hold them forever young with an Eternal Young Scroll. Or you sell or trade them in the auction house or the forums or gift them to newbies. Another option is exalting, a hotly debated theme. Generally, being exalted to the premises of the deity of the Flight should be seen as maximum honor, yet many breeders see it as getting rid of unwanted dragons. Exalting is important for dominance, though. Sending dragons off to their deity for service gets you some treasure and the Flight which exalted the most dragons and hatchies over the week wins dominance and gets some bonuses like more gathering turns and reduced prices in the marketplace for one week. Some Flights are very fierce with this, like Ice, some are never thinking off this, like Arcane, LOL.

You can send your dragon or items to another player if you go to Shop and then choose Crossroads. You can click one- or two-way delivery. Apply the dragon or items or currency or all and await the other player confirming it. You can attach a message, too.

Your hatchies and your dragons need to eat every day. You get food for them through gathering and battling. You find your food in the Hoard under Clan. You have to convert it to dragon food. You can see how much food you have at the ready when you click your dragon lair and look above it, all the insects, meat, seafood and plant points are listed there. If you run out, convert more. Besides the food, you find all your items in the hoard. If something is very important to you, you can also lock it there.

3. Familars Your hatchies and dragons need a companion for their well-being to play with and talk to. They are called familars in Flight Rising. You'll find them during gathering and battling or can buy them in the Auction House or the Market Place. Under Clan, you find your Bestiary, where all the familars you have are colored and the ones you need for a full collection are pictured b/w. Go to your dragons page and apply a familar (below the dragon, on the right). Visit the familar daily and click the red heart. It gives you some treasure, it gives more when it is more tamed. Now and then, you get a treasure chest and will find treasure, gems and items like apparel or food inside. When the familar is fully awakened, you can detach it and attach another familar and the cycle goes on again.

4. Skins and Apparel To make your dragon look different, you can adorn him with apparel, accents and skins. Sometimes, you find apparel in treasure chests or during battle and get it from trades with Swipp. You can buy it in the Auction House or in the Market Place, too. During festivals, you find 3 types of apparel in the Festival Shop. They can also be like CWs, made and sold by users who designed them.

Ancient breeds can't wear apparel. They can wear skins and accents made for them, though.

A skin covers the whole dragon, an accent only parts, around 30 % or less. Skins and apparels are also in your hoard and you can apply them to your dragon with the buttons below, skin and apparels, when you click "customize". You can look what the skin or accent will look like if you go to your hoard, click it there and then all the dragons which can wear them are listed and you can view them. To look up how apparel would look on your dragon before you buy it, go to the Library and try the Dressing Room.

Skins and accents are very rarely found during battling or can be traded with Swipp. Very nice skins and accents are available during the festivals. They are buyable in the Auction House and in the Market Place (only during festivals), found in chests or brewed with Baldwin.

Like mentioned above, skins and accents can be custom-made like CWs also! They are offered in the Auction House and you can even buy blueprints to make your own! If this is your intention, go to Shop and then choose Custom Skins.

5. Games If you play the games in the Fairgrounds, you can make 75k treasure each day. Which game you choose is up to your liking, just test which is fun and gives you treasure quickly. I like the Architecture game and the memory, others make treasure more quickly with Glimmer and Gloom.

6. Festivals From January until November, the eleven Flights have their festivals, every month another Flight. It takes place in the last week of the month, starting with Sunday and ending the next Saturday. Every day, you gather in the area of the Flight to find the festival currency. Best to gather in Digging because there is a slight chance you'll dig out a festival treasure chest. Battling monsters in the coliseum gives festival currency, too.

Always use the guides in the forums to see which area gives most currency and treasure chests!

You can trade the festival currency in for a special festival familar and three festival apparels when you go to Shop and then Festive Favors, Elemental Festival Shop. If you choose the other option there, Joxar's Spare Inventory, you can buy special crates for 80k treasure each which give you Prismatic Tokens. These tokens are the currency for this special shop, the items are rare and now and then, new ones appear. Both shops are only open for the festival. If you have festival currency left after the festival, you can use it next year. The week before festivals, it's common practice that the Flights let the Festival Flight win because the dominating Flight gets their benefits and that's even more sweet during festivals.

Before a festival happens, there is always a custom made skin and accent contest. After staff has choosen, they appear at the first day of the festival and you can find them in the Market Place (they sell like hot cakes normally in the first days), some during battling or gathering and even some can be bubbled up with Baldwin. In December, there is no festival yet Night of the Nocturne, a special event, when you can find unhatched Nocturne eggs.

7. Currency The in-game currency is treasure, made by gaming, logging in, selling dragons and items, found in treasure chests and such. Visit Shop and then Trading Post, you can trade items and answers for treasure there once a day and with Crim, even every hour. However, not every item Crim asks for is a good idea to give him, look up prices in the beginning! Often, Auction House would give your more. Give him your food not over worth 50, 60 at most. You can also buy a raffle ticket under the category Trading Post to win rare items or dragons.

The pay currency is gems, you can buy it via PayPal. You also can trade your treasure in for gems in the forums under Item Sales. The trading ratio is around 1000k treasure for 1 gem.

8. Baldwin's Bubbling Brew If you feel like an alchemist, perhaps visit Baldwin and his bubbling kettle at the Trading Post. You can learn recipes there to make new items, use and sell them. If you are a good apprentice, you even learn how to brew up skins and accents during festivals in the end!

9. Battling If you go to Play and choose Coliseum, you can set up a party for battling which is cute and animated in FR. You dragon party is composed of 3 dragons. Usually, you have a powerful tank for the hard grinding work, an agile sweeper for swift movements and an experienced healer ro rely on when it was a more stormy affair. Choose Organize Party to set up a trio and level them up. Abilities and Stats then shows your choosen dragons, their abilities and battle stones. Monster Battle finally leads you to the 25 different areas where you dragons can battle. Start with Training Fields and level them up until they are invincible! Yet how to battle? That's a special theme........ Here is a good guide:

BATTLE GUIDE

Im not the battle specialist, LOL. I have only one battle trio, level 25 now. I build up power by using Scratch and Shred until the bar is full (Meditate for healers), and then I use Eliminate all the time until I have to fill up the power bar again which happens when the monsters dodge. Works for me. Yet you can certainly entertain several battle parties and have them all have their own moves.
